The\u00a0General States of the Green Economy<\/strong>\u00a0meeting held in November 2018 saw the Italian country protagonist for the slow conversion to\u00a0Green City<\/strong>. The discussion was in fact focused on the lack of actions that pushed the major Italian cities to improve their own sustainability compared to the rest of the European countries.<\/p>\n

The data collected on the\u00a0major Italian regional capitals<\/strong>\u00a0show the difficulty and the distance from what can be defined as a country with a\u00a0green economy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A further mistake that fosters this lack is the almost total absence of\u00a0eco-sustainability promotion<\/strong>\u00a0in urban spaces and its potential, leaving the population unaware of the possibilities that reserve, for example, the inclusion of more\u00a0green areas<\/strong>\u00a0(estimates indicate that only 5% of the total area occupied by the city is dedicated to public green areas, further decreasing estimates), or the\u00a0improvement of a dilapidated building\u00a0<\/strong>(over 70% of the buildings in Italy are over 40 years of age with consequent huge energy consumption).<\/p>\n

The surveys mainly refer to building agglomerations that represent\u00a085% of GDP<\/strong>,\u00a0hosting 4 billion people<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0eroding 75% of useful resources<\/strong>, making up the largest share in terms of land use.<\/p>\n

The lack of real and continuous measures involves an\u00a0overuse of resources<\/strong>, water and energy waste, accumulation of waste and inability to dispose of them, increase of greenhouse gases, pollution, mental and physical illness of the population.<\/p>\n

In fact, the data collected in the big cities have to alarm us:<\/p>\n

in Italy there was the highest rate of\u00a0premature deaths<\/strong>\u00a0due to polluted air, 82% of the population is exposed to average annual PM10 levels above the OMS guidelines;<\/p>\n

there is a\u00a0waste of almost 40% of water<\/strong>\u00a0before before using, due to losses in the general water supply;<\/p>\n

spaces dedicated to urban\u00a0green areas are less than 5%<\/strong>\u00a0on the totality of city surfaces;<\/p>\n

70% of buildings are over the age of 40;<\/p>\n

In light of these problems, that place Italy far from the ideology of\u00a0Sustainable politics<\/strong>, at the first\u00a0National Conference of Green Cities<\/strong>\u00a0the Guidelines to be undertaken to start the change of the country were presented.<\/p>\n
